Denture

Does my sense of taste become dull when wearing dentures?

An upper complete denture covers the palate, so taste and temperature sensation can become somewhat dulled. That said, since most taste buds are on the tongue, what people actually notice more is the change in hot/cold temperature sensation rather than taste itself. Making the palate portion out of a thin metal can help transmit temperature better and reduce this discomfort. However, because it can be harder to tell how hot food is, there is a risk of burning the roof of your mouth — so get into the habit of checking the temperature of hot food before eating.
