What is the difference between complete and partial dentures?

The difference depends on whether you still have any natural teeth. When no teeth remain, a "complete denture" covers the entire gum ridge and is held in place by suction. When some teeth are left, a "partial denture" uses metal clasps that hook onto the remaining teeth for retention. However, with a partial denture, the teeth holding the clasps bear additional force, so those teeth need to be healthy — and if necessary, we may place crowns on them first. In both cases, patients aged 65 and older are eligible for national health insurance coverage.
