Can crowns be made and placed in a single day?

If a clinic has same-day restoration equipment (intraoral scanner and milling machine such as CEREC), the crown can be fabricated and placed on the same day. With conventional restorations, after taking an impression, the lab work typically takes 3 to 4 days to about a week. During this fabrication period we place a temporary tooth so you can eat and go about daily life. However, same-day completion may not be possible when 1) shade matching is demanding, such as for front teeth, 2) multiple restorations are made at once, or 3) preliminary treatment such as root canal therapy is needed.
