Implant

I taste something metallic around my implant.

A metallic taste around an implant warrants investigation. Possible causes include 1) inflammation around the implant causing bleeding or pus, 2) screw loosening or part wear creating tiny gaps, or 3) microcurrents flowing between different metal restorations in the mouth. It may simply be a temporary sensation, but if it persists for more than 2 to 3 days or is accompanied by bleeding or swelling, please visit us so we can diagnose the cause. That said, the source of a metallic taste isn't always found inside the mouth — in some cases, you may need to wait and see or consult another medical specialty.
