Does gum treatment hurt? Is anesthesia used?

When removing deep tartar beneath the gum line, the procedure can be uncomfortable, so we use local anesthesia and you will feel little to no pain during treatment. After the anesthesia wears off, you may feel some throbbing or sensitivity for a day or two, but it is usually manageable with over-the-counter pain relievers. Sensitivity to cold may continue for 1 to 2 weeks after treatment, but it typically subsides gradually. However, if the pain lasts more than a week, or if your gums swell and produce pus, there may be an infection, so please visit us.
