Why are lower dentures more uncomfortable than upper dentures?

Lower dentures are structurally less stable than upper dentures, and there are several reasons for this: 1) the gum surface area supporting the denture is much smaller in the lower jaw than in the upper, 2) the tongue pushes the denture out of place every time it moves, and 3) the muscles of the lips and cheeks also affect it. Most patients can use the lower denture comfortably after an adjustment period, but if it is too loose for you to eat properly, placing about 2 implants to anchor the denture (an implant-supported denture) is another way to improve retention.
