Once I get Botox, do I need to keep getting it?
You do not have to keep getting injections, but repeat treatment is needed to maintain the effect. The effect lasts about 3 to 6 months, after which muscle function gradually returns, so stopping means going back to your original state rather than getting worse. 1) If your goal is pain relief, you can have another injection when symptoms return; 2) if your goal is maintaining muscle reduction (square jaw), consider injections every 3 to 6 months. However, if pain continues even after injections, another cause may be involved and needs to be diagnosed.
