TMJ
Is there a chance of recurrence?
Yes, a temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder can come back if the habits that caused it remain. Teeth grinding, clenching, chewing on only one side, and resting your chin on your hand are the main causes. Even after treatment, it is important to keep correcting those habits: 1) cut back on hard, chewy foods, 2) avoid opening your mouth wide, and 3) manage stress and sleep. However, if pain or limited jaw opening returns, treatment is much easier when you come in early.
