TMJ

I hear clicking sounds in my jaw when I open my mouth. Do I need treatment?

If there is only a sound with no pain or catching, you don't need immediate treatment — observation is enough. Clicking sounds from the jaw are often produced by the articular disc moving. However, if 1) the sound comes with pain, 2) your mouth opens less than three finger widths (about 40mm), or 3) your jaw repeatedly catches and then releases, treatment is needed and you should have an examination. Please avoid habits of opening your mouth wide and eating chewy, tough foods.
