Yes, it can reattach. As the incision heals, scar tissue can bind back down in a shorter position. To prevent it, it is important to do tongue exercises several times a day, consistently, for about the 2 to 3 weeks the wound is healing - lifting the tongue up, pushing it forward, and moving it from side to side. With a young child it helps if a parent does them together as a game. If reattachment does restrict movement again, repeat surgery is possible, so please come for a follow-up check.
