I have severe bad breath. What treatments are available?

If the source of the bad breath is inside your mouth, we can diagnose and treat the cause at the dental clinic. The main causes are 1) bacteria in cavities and in the gaps around old restorations, 2) gum disease (periodontitis), and 3) coating on the back of the tongue. After identifying the cause we treat it with scaling, gum treatment, and fillings, and we also show you how to use a tongue cleaner. However, if the odor persists after oral treatment, it may come from another source such as tonsil stones, sinusitis, or acid reflux, in which case we will refer you to the appropriate specialty.
